“I am passionate about creating mission-driven, nurturing, work environments with the goal of hiring and training exceptional members of the upcoming generation of psychotherapists.

Maya Johansson has worked in the Mental Health field since 2003. Her roles have spanned work with unhoused and queer youth, foster care, and support services for Spanish-speaking immigrant families.

In 2011 she co-founded Well Clinic with the vision of eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health and wellness and making these services more accessible.

Currently, Well Clinic is in the process of becoming the country’s first worker-owned Cooperative in the Mental Health field. We are committed to pioneering a new model of mental healthcare that moves wealth away from corporate ownership and into the hands of workers and community.

Maya’s Clinical Background

“From my background in social services, I came to the work of psychotherapy because I wanted to facilitate healing at deeper and more subtle levels.  My approach is relational and humanistic. I have a warm but active and authentic style.

I am not the stereotypical therapist who sits back and nods. I am engaged and curious about you and your process and will find your edge with you in a way that also feels safe and empathetic.

I have extensive training in AEDP, created by Dr. Diana Fosha, which combines attachment theory, somatic work through the body, and uses the most current neuroscientific research to demonstrate the healing power inherent in emotion and intimacy.

I specialize in working with couples as well as nontraditional relationships and my work is informed primarily by the research and theory of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, The Gottman Method, and the Couples Institute.

I conduct psychotherapy in Spanish and English.”

  • Maya made us both incredibly comfortable from day one. Her energy, neutrality and calming/supportive demeanor opened difficult doors with ease.  You won’t regret seeing her!

  • I highly recommend Maya for couples and personal counseling. She has greatly improved my relationship with my partner, and personally helped me grow and understand some of the obstacles I have encountered in my life.

  • I can not express how impressed I was with Maya Johansson. I didn’t really know what to expect, but found it a nonjudgmental and life changing experience. I could go on forever about how great Maya is.
