Do I Need Trauma Counseling?

If you have been having difficulties recovering from a traumatic experience, then trauma counseling can help. If you are having trouble understanding your disturbing thoughts, nightmares, fear, anxiety and other uncomfortable symptoms, then trauma counseling might be the answer.

How Does Trauma Therapy Work?

In addition to traditional talk therapy, your trauma treatment plan may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), meditation, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and introducing a mindfulness practice into your everyday life.

CBT is an excellent choice for those with complex trauma histories, such as those who served in the military or had a difficult upbringing, as it allows you the time and space necessary to talk through your experiences and address the emotional wounds that have arisen due to the pain you suffered. EMDR works well for specific traumatic incidents like a car crash because it uses scientifically based treatments that help to “unstick” painful memories and allow your brain to heal.
